It has been a sad weekend for Norway. We were all all in shock over Friday's incidents and Norwegians all over the world were left speechless and confused. I think most people in general were very confused.

I had friends calling and texting and saying "...but Norway is one of the calmest country in the world!". I didn't even know what to say myself, I was in shock!
I seriously spent hours talking on the phone with friends and family back home and literally stayed glued to the news online from Norway (nrk.no) and cried on and off for the last 72 hours. I cried when I saw pictures from Oslo's streets but I couldn't recognize them because it was so unreal. I cried when I read a teenage girl testimony she wrote on her blog when she finally felt safe at home. About how she felt happy to be home and guilty at the same time because others lost their lives.

My heart goes out to families that were directly affected. For the people that have lost a friend, for the families that lost their loved ones and for the kids that did survived but ran/swam and had to fear for their lives. I don't know what to say to you but I am so sorry for what you had to go through. I truly pray that you will all feel loved and grow stronger from this nightmare.

My friend posted this quote on Facebook today, from a young girl, one of the survivors from the island that said: "If one man can create so much hate, image how much we as a togetherness can create"

I love Scandinavian architecture and design! So when I read this in the news this morning, I was so excited I had to share it with you.

Ok, let's break it down here a little bit.
If you look back to some of our posts, or read the 'about us' part, you will get a picture of what the girls on Survoler stands for and believes in. We have no problem sharing our faith with the readers of this blog, whether they share the same faith as us or not. We blog about what inspires us in life and especially what we feel about our faith. We wont really call ourselves religious, but we certainly call ourselves believers. We believe in a higher power than ourselves and we call him God and we believe that God has a son that had walk the face of this earth and his name was Jesus. - He is basically the foundation of christianity.

This is the part where we break it down. Or maybe where I break it down.

Sometimes, we - as in you or I - go through some tough breaks in life. We do not always know why and we feel lost or alone... Some people do not like to admit it to themselves or to others around them. They take whatever had happened to them as "just another part" of life. So they put on the smiley face and go on with their lives and pretend as if it was just another bump on the road and continue with their everyday activities.
I do not know how everyone else react, but in my case, I find it hard to pretend. Even if I try, I just cannot fake things and pretend that everything is alright when it is not (forgive me for having female hormones) So I start blaming the world for not turning the way I want it to go. I know, it might sound selfish to you, but in my head, it doesn't. Shocker!

For about 8-9 months ago, I had a major break down! Things had been going crazy and that was it! That was the last straw! However, this one was different from any other I have had in the past. This time, I was not blaming the world. I was done fighting or being angry. I just came to realize that I had been wrong for a long time. If you are stubborn as me, you would that it is a very difficult thing to realize.
I felt helpless and lost. I had amazing friends by my side and an incredibly and supportive mother in my life but even their words could not get to me and give me the comfort that I needed. In that moment, I felt so helpless that I started praying. I started praying and I turned my anger out to a God that although I had claimed that I knew existed, I was not really sure that I believed in him. However, in that moment, I knew that pouring myself to him, I will somehow finally get some peace of mind. So I prayed and I surrendered to the unknown. In a way or another, I knew that my prayers had been heard and I just had this "something" telling me that, I am not alone and that I will be more than OK.
That was 8-9 months ago and ever since, my life has never been the same.
I do not really know how to describe it, so I will do what I do best. Leave you with a song that explains that "something" I am referring to.

Like most people, I woke up Sunday January 2nd and I noticed that 2010 was over. It was done and it is never going to come back again. It was right there and then I realized that... so is all the trials that came along with it. It is all done! Over to the next chapter in life.

Most people have new years resolutions, I don't this time.
Why? Because by the grace of God, I have been given a second chance to live, love and laugh. That is more than I could ask for. How do I know it? Because I do, because I believe, because I have been freed!
As life has taught me, there is light at the end of the tunnel for those who believe it. As for me, my sunshine has come.

I would like to pose two questions to you out there. Have you ever thought about the times when you were in a sticky situation,and God as selfless as He is saves you once again? Or the times where you thought nothing else could be done and you almost gave in, but in the heat of the moment you fell to your knees, closed your eyes and folded your hands, and out of your mouth came prayers of desperation. However two weeks ago when your pockets were full, and life was merry God was just another self-help book that you bought, but never chose to read so it ended up in a stack of piles with other books of the same fate.

Why is it so easy for us to run to God whenever we need something, but when our lives is spinning on cotton wheels God somehow disappears? We become so preoccupied with the things we think is so important in life and leave God behind only to use him as our safety break, when in essence God should be our number one priority.

All our father in heaven wants from us is that we acknowledge him during our day, by going back to the place where it all started between you and him, giving him a place in your heart where he is not just your safety break but also your confidant.

So I challenge you (including me) to make time to talk with God even when all is well.

Thanksgiving day!
This is an American tradition that my roommate and I were fortunate enough to celebrate yesterday (a day earlier) with all our American friends we met here in Barcelona. I personally didn't know much about this tradition, but we were definitely lectured about it yesterday. I now understand that it had something to do with pilgrims, native Americans, cold winter, lack of food etc... And there was also something about corns?

I got introduced to a new friend yesterday. She is very stylish!

Besides the good food and the good company, my favorite part of the evening was at the end of the dinner. Each person had to stand up and say one thing they were grateful for that had happend this last year. That surprised me a lot! This is a cool tradition, I might follow it - in a non American way since I'm neither a pilgrim or a native American.

I am grateful for that this year had turn out to be completely different than what I thought it would be when it first started.
I am grateful for having someone that is watching over me.
I am grateful for God's guidance.
I am grateful for the way he has brought things through in my life that are better than what I could ever had planned on my own.
and I am grateful for good friends here in Barcelona, in Oslo, in England and for my lovely family around the world.

What are you grateful for? - Remember to give thanks to God today. Also to help someone who needs a hand, food to eat, money, kind words or just a smile!

Here at survoler, we are not big fans of twitter. In fact, we (well maybe just ME) make fun of my friends when they are twittering.

To be honest, I do not make fun of them because I think that twitter is overrated and a little pointless, I mostly laugh because I do not get it! I am a little slow when it comes to social networks. I am like a 50 year old when it comes to these.

Anyway, I do have someone that I enjoy "following" on twitter from time to time.

I ~~have mentioned it before and I mention it again~~ - I like to "follow" Rev Run from Run DMC.

I enjoy his practical quotes. He keeps it real! He twitters about things that go bellow the surface. I like how simple the use of his words are, but then again, they have so much meaning and strength behind them.

I couldn't be more grateful than this.

My sister - best friend - and I have just moved together to Barcelona and after many weeks of hunting, we have (literally) been blessed with the perfect apartment for the two of us.

The story behind this is pretty funny. However, I'm too tired to write it down right now as I didn't get much sleep last night. I guess my mind is still way too excited. Pictures will be posted later on today for those of you at home in Oslo wondering.

Personally, I listen to a lot of music while I'm working, wait, I listen to a lot of music in general. Like I mentioned in this post.
I have been listening to an album from CeCe Winans called purified all day today and there is one song that brings a smile to my face each time I hear it. It's called Colorful world.
That song is a breath of fresh air. It makes me think of the Benetton ads I've seen around town. (BTW, If you like India Arie, you will like CeCe Winans)

The last couple of weeks, I have been doing some intense cleaning in my iTunes. I'm a huge fan of music, I listen to it all day, all the time, with people or alone. To be honest, I rather listen to music than hearing someone speak. Also as a dancer, music is a huge inspiration to me.
The reason why I have been “cleansing” my iTunes is because I found out that there are so many songs I listened to that really makes no sense at all... lyrically of course.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to an M.O.P and Talib Kweli concert. With all the love I used to have for Talib's music, I had to leave the concert before it ended. I seriously could not stand being in that place for long.
If music is supposed to inspire, why do we willingly let ourselves be inspired by songs that glorifies excessive use of violence, sex, drugs, alcohol etc?
Shouldn't we as humans be driven to aim for something better than that?

We let our mind get invaded with lyrics that promote violence and murder, but still we claim that we are against it, or immoral sexual behaviors, but we still claim that we are against that as well. There are also lyrics that dignify drug and alcohol abuse as entertaining, we listen to them inspite of the fact that we profess to be against that. Do I sense a double morality?

Music is in fact a very big inspiration. Words that are either spoken or written are inspirations to the human soul. They bring wisdom to the receiver.

A lot of lyrics ooze out shallowness, something that clearly does not mirror the real life.

In other words, we should be careful with what we listen to, we should be careful with what we let ourselves be inspired by, our actions depends on it.

The bible, friend or enemy?

People often tell me that it is impossible to follow the scriptures since it was written many centuries ago, when things where different. That God and who ever wrote it was not thinking about the people that would be living in 21Th. century.

First I have to say that the bible is a guide book for the spiritual seekers. It is not meant to be followed to the extreme. I think THAT would be impossible. The bible brings up topics of things that as a human being you will one day face. It prepares you for any situation life has to offer.
God is a generous God, he created this whole universe we live in and he gave us a guide book on how actually live on this earth if we want to survive the struggles we as human put on ourselves.
For example, if you want to learn how to drive, there is a book that will guide you through it and will teach you what to do if you want to avoid accidents.
There are some rules you need to follow and some things you need to avoid while you are on the road. You are not alone out there. The road does not belong to you, it belongs to everyone on it. No matter what the person by your side has done whether it was an illegal U-turn or whatever, the law is still the law. It demands that you as a driver still need to follow the rules that were given to you not only for your own sake, but also for the sake of everyone else on the road with you.
Imagine if everyone on the road was driving exactly the way they wanted to, no limits, no boundaries, no respect for other cars. I wonder how many accidents that would cause?
The bible is exactly like that. It first explains us the greatness of God but it guides us and advise us through the ups and downs life has to offer.

Whether you look at the bible as a friend or an enemy, when it comes to religious scriptures, we all need to check our facts before passing judgements. Check if the prophecies that were told for centuries ago by some prophets do coincide with things that we see and experience around the world today.
Personally, I like to double check my facts before I actually accept them as a reality. My personal advice is to always have a balance between science and religious scriptures. Here, I am referring to the bible.

As one half of survoler, I have to say that I am very exited about the changes that survoler is going through.
